Rhino Fishing Rods (Review)

The Zebco Fishing Rods have a name that perfectly describes the quality and durability of this freshwater fishing rod. A rhino is considered one of the toughest animals on the planet and a rhino fishing rod is one of the toughest rods you will find. The reason it is tough is simple; Zebco built it. Freshwater anglers all over the world love Rhino Rods and they are priced as good as any you will find.

The year was 1999 and I was a younger angler wading in the beautiful St. Johns River in Jacksonville Florida. I was spot fishing for largemouth bass, as it was springtime in Florida, and the big females were busy clearing out a spot to make a home for their fry. I could see the big black tails as they darted left and right knocking free twigs, old leaves, and debris from the semi-sandy bottom of the St. John’s River. I thought I saw a rather large female with an estimated weight of 7 to 8 pounds, so I slowly walked over and got within what I thought was casting distance. I eyeballed the location of the female, looked and took aim and slung my rod and my lure right on top of where I had last seen the giant lunker bass. Right then and there I knew I had one heck of a pole in my hand for freshwater fish as the Rhino delivered my lure directly where I needed it to be. After a 10 minute fight that ensued, I landed what was a beautiful 10 pound large mouth bass. I was in love with that rhino rod right there and then! By the way, I let the largemouth go.

Such are the stories that are so numerous on the North American rivers and are largely accountable to the Zebco Rhino freshwater fishing rods and accompanying reels. A day must not go by where there isn’t a story about a big fish that was landed with the help of the Rhino and some patience and luck. The art of fishing, especially freshwater fishing for larger species, is a fun and exciting hobby that children should be introduced too and as soon as possible. This is where a fine freshwater rod such as the Rhino, can come in so very beneficial. The days on the lake or pond with the fishing rods and the family will be the ones that are treasured for a long time, maybe a lifetime.

The best aspect of a Rhino combo is that the cost is relatively low and some models can be found in local retailers going for as low as $20.00! That’s a great price for a starter rod and reel that will get the novice fisherman out there and catching fish right away!

Zebco Fishing Rod

Zebco fishing rods have been around as long as any of us can remember. As children it seemed every boy wanted a Zebco rod for Christmas or maybe a birthday gift. Next to the Red Ryder Wagon and the Daisy BB Gun, the Zebco rod and reel pushbutton model was top of many wish lists. The Zebco rod is as popular today as it was nearly 80 years ago.

The year was 1932 and the company that is Zebco, was formally known as the Zero Hour Bomb Company. The company’s interest was totally in petroleum as it held the patent on an electrical time bomb. This was way before any thought of the famous pushbutton Zebco reel was mentioned.

In the year 1949, a gentleman by the name of Jasper Arndell Hall, who was a watchmaker by profession, showed his new sparkling fishing reel to the Zero Hour Bomb Company. What transpired on that blistery summer day would change the landscape of local fishing forever in the United States. This was the birth of the famous Zebco reel.

The Zebco Co. 33, which set the standard, became so well-known it was named America’s Reel. America has had a fascination with the company ever since its creation and distribution of the wildly popular Zebco 33 reel. All a kid had to do was target any freshwater species, set the drag, and say goodbye to any worrisome and troublesome line tangles! This rod and reel revolutionized the fishing industry and created a cult-like following for both collectors and anglers throughout North America.

Although the Zebco 33 was never in the high-dollar and high-precision rankings of such big names as St. Croix and G-Loomis, the combination of performance and quality for the average fisherman, made the Zebco a real nice combo package.

An amazing fact about the Zebco 33 Spin Combo is that through the next few decades, the basic concept of Zebco fishing rods has remained unchanged. The price is a little more than it was almost a decade ago, yet the combo features, such as the 6 ‘ 2- piece, spinning reel combination, is still the same exceptional value and undeniable good time!

The Zebco fishing rods of today are numerous and have many variations that sprung from the original’s Zebco 33 Rod. Zebco manufacturing company now has dozens of fantastic and highly affordable models of freshwater fishing rods to choose from. One of the best features that are also one of the main reasons for the success of that rod is the price.

There is no better value for the money than a Zebco freshwater rod and reel combination. Although there are many other higher-priced and definitely more detailed freshwater rods out there, the Zebco freshwater rod has held its place as the grandfather of all the rods that followed this American icon.
